🔹The production of sponge iron and the construction of new direct reduction plants is on the rise — yet, quite surprisingly, there are still no precise or reliable statistics regarding the amount of steel scrap available in the country. Based on estimates, approximately 3 million tons of steel scrap are traded annually in Iran.
🔹There is a critical need for a unified organization in this field. The rising cost and limited availability of scrap — a key raw material — have become major challenges for steel producers across the country.
🔹As global steel producers increasingly move toward carbon neutrality and energy reduction, the strategic importance of using iron scrap has grown significantly. Countries like Turkey not only ban the export of scrap but also actively import it from neighboring countries such as Iraq.
